Character
Character Name: Gareki
Fandom: Karneval
Timeline: Beginning-Mid of Chapter 25
Crimes: Theft, unauthorized possession and use of a weapon, Criminal use of explosives, destruction of private property, and assault.
Personality:
For one thing, Gareki is pretty arrogant by nature and that may be a bit off putting for some. He's intelligent, despite not getting proper education, and knows a lot more about the darker side of the world than a most fifteen year olds should know about. Ever since the betrayal of his own birth parents, he has high distrust in people. Gareki isn't a sociable person either and likes to keep to himself.
His harsh words and rough actions are just a cover though. Upon meeting and traveling with Nai, it's revealed that Gareki has a much more kind and gentler side, especially when it concerns younger children. He's also the type that tends to blush when embarrassed. This is something he never likes to show around others. He can be described as a tsundere if you want to use that term.
Another thing about Gareki is the fact that he hates to be useless in whatever situation. Gareki doesn't want to be a mere bystander and if he's able to assist, he'll do it. However, this is only true if he is involved. If he has no business in the matter, Gareki would choose to stay out of trouble. "You mind your own business and I'll mind mine."
When it comes to companionship, Gareki really has no clue what that is. If anybody asked if they were friends, he'd bluntly reject it. He doesn't understand what true friendship is but he'll accept having things like "acquaintances." No matter how smart Gareki may be, friendship is something that he needs to understand.
Gareki isn't the most purest and honest guy out there, but the one thing he cannot tolerate is killing, especially if it involves a woman. He's no casonova who plans to sweep her off her feet, but he'd definitely look out for her safety first and foremost. Even during his time as a thief, the bombs that he'd use were only for breaking in or used as distractions. His plans never involved actually using them to injure a person. (That hideous creature from chapter 1 definitely did not count.)
Abilities:
He's pretty knowledgeable when it comes to bombs, being able to make them out of scraps from his surroundings. Gareki is also good with handling guns and is known for being a skilled shooter. His strong point is really in mechanics and he's often meddling around with machines.
Multifandom Test:
Setsuna F. Seiei is somebody who had an equally (if not worse) rough childhood, which made him distant and more or less anti-social with others, would definitely be able to understand and sympathize with Gareki. Though he's not necessarily a little kid, Gareki is still also young. Setsuna has also experienced hardships in the past. Though it's questionable whether or not they can bond over their pasts as neither of them are the type to really pry into the others business.
Also, Gareki is still a bit of a lone wolf and usually isn't the type to hang around others for socializing. However, somebody quiet like Setsuna would be a different matter. His presence is noticeable, but not so much that it's an annoyance and that is something Gareki would appreciate.
And on a less serious note, Gareki is also heavily interested with machinery but has no clue what a Gundam could possibly be. Of course Gundam-Maniac Setsuna F. Seiei would be more than enthusiastic to inform the teen about the wonders of giant robots. Sadly, no matter how interested he may be, there are no Gundams available for Gareki to tamper around with (since that is his hobby and all) and even if there were, Setsuna, sure as hell, would never let an inexperienced kid mess around with his treasure.
Action post sample:
He was only half listening to the inviting welcome that greeted him the moment he opened his eyes. Some sort of artificially intelligence was introducing him to his new surroundings. And while he tried to pay attention, his mind also wandered to the reason why he had been arrested.
Of course, Gareki knew that his old actions would end up biting him in the ass one day. No matter how long ago it was since his last heist attempt, a crime was a crime. He'd thought he was under protection due to some special circumstances. Though that proved not to be the case.
And what about Nai? How is he doing? Will he be alright without Gareki around? Tch. A hand covered the lower half of his face. He was more worried about that runt than he should be. It's okay though. Nai should still be with the others. And there was still that deal they made before this fiasco started.
After all they've been through together? There's no way he's going to leave empty handed without his reward. But wait...that wasn't his only reason for wanting to get out right? His thoughts quickly shift back towards Nai again...
Well damn. He really needed to find some way out of here now.
Network post sample:
[So maybe he did end up playing around with his communicator. At first it buzzed a bit. Then nothing. He hadn't broken it right?]
Hey, is this thing working? Did I turn it on properly?
Ugh...maybe I really did break it.
[He mutters as he continues to tap at the sides of his communicator, not realizing it was really recording all of his actions.]
Tch. What the hell am I doing...
[He must have realized he was looking foolish with his actions. He hastily pulled it away from his ear and the transmission cuts away with only one last shot of the slight flush on his face....]
